Grand Holiday Illumination at Untermyer Gardens Conservancy

The Grand Holiday Illumination at Untermyer Gardens Conservancy is about a 30-minute drive from Westchester to Yonkers, New York. This holiday event opens on Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. It’s free for the public, and you don’t have to make a reservation, so it’s an easy event to fit into your busy holiday schedule.
The conservancy’s Walled Garden has over 100,000 sparkling lights to look at, and you’ll get to enjoy holiday music from many traditions playing in the background as you walk around the garden. The garden also has fun holiday decorations, like wreaths and garlands. Everyone attending the event can get a free cup of hot chocolate.

Victorian Christmas: Holiday House Tours
Take a 21-minute drive to Irvington, New York, to experience a Victorian Christmas: Holiday House Tours at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House. Step back in time and experience what Christmas was like in 1872 on a tour of this eight-sided home. The restored house is a National Historic Landmark, making it a unique holiday experience to share with your loved ones.
The home’s interior has many classic Christmas decorations, including wreaths, garland strands, and stunning antique ornaments delicately hung on a grand, feather Christmas tree inside the salon. Make reservations and ticket purchases for the one-hour guided tour online using the property’s website.

Westchester’s Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Extravaganza
Get in the car and see Westchester’s Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Extravaganza, about a 12-minute drive to Valhalla, New York. This is a marvelous experience for all ages, especially families with children. Thousands of mesmerizing holiday lights strung along 1.2 miles of this experience. Along the ride, see light-up elves, angels, a 50-foot dove, dancing trees, and glowing snowballs. Additionally, you’ll go through a light tunnel that is 100 feet long and get to see Westchester’s 40-foot-tall Christmas tree.
Some new features to this year’s extravaganza include:
- New North Pole.
- Live Santa display.
- Kaleidoscope Alley.
- Extended Peace on Earth LED display.

Legoland Holiday Bricktacular
Take a drive to Goshen, New York, about an hour’s trip, to experience the Legoland Holiday Bricktacular. If you have children or a Lego enthusiast in your life, they’re sure to love this holiday activity. At this event, you can meet Lego Santa, take a picture together, and view the 8-foot-tall Lego Christmas tree and wreath. The tree has numerous Lego ornaments to look at, including Duplo wreaths.
Additionally, Legoland has many pretty, sparkling lights and strands of garland to add to the festive experience. Each day the event is open, there are daily tree lightings, carolers, and meet and greets with Santa. Use Legoland’s website to select your days and purchase tickets. You can enter the event and all the activities with a general admission ticket or with your Legoland annual pass.

Holidays on the Hill Train Show
See the annual train show, Holidays on the Hill Train Show, in Katonah, New York, which is about a 20-minute drive away from Westchester. This year, the show has more trains and exhibits than it’s had in the past. Explore the outdoor exhibits and marvel at the cool trains. You can watch the train show at the park’s indoor track. The event is great for all ages, especially those who have a special interest in trains. The event also has a holiday village where you can feel the festive spirit with elves, snowmen, reindeer, and holiday music.
Purchase your tickets for the show online or at the event. Prices vary by age, and children 2 and under get in free.
