Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve

Located 40 minutes from Brewster, Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve is a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts. The preserve covers more than 8,000 acres of land surrounding the Hudson River, allowing the natural beauty of the region to shine. Visitors can boat, fish, watch native birds, or hike on the preserve’s many trails, which range from easy walks to challenging climbs. There are over 70 miles of trails in the park, so it’s a good idea to download a hiking map from the preserve’s website beforehand. That way, you can plan a perfect route for your hiking trip.

Green Chimneys Farm & Wildlife Center

Just 15 minutes from downtown Brewster, Green Chimneys Farm & Wildlife Center offers visitors the chance to see farm animals. Green Chimneys Farm & Wildlife Center is part of a nonprofit farm with over 300 animals, including cattle and horses. Funds from donations allow the organization to accomplish its mission of educating children about animals.

This facility is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Small groups can walk around the grounds and see the animals for free, while larger groups of six or more need to schedule a group tour for a fee.

EverWonder Children’s Museum

Located outside Newtown, Connecticut, just 30 minutes from Brewster, EverWonder Children’s Museum allows children to learn about science and history in a fun, interactive way. At this museum, exhibits are divided up by age groups to ensure a rewarding experience for toddlers and children aged 10 and younger. Visitors can learn about basic machines, touch reptiles, explore weather patterns, and complete interactive crafts and games. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The museum requires advanced ticket purchases through its website. Here are the prices for admission:

Croton Point Park

Just 35 minutes from Brewster, Croton Point Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and a range of outdoor activities. This 508-acre park offers fishing, hiking, camping, and kayaking options. Stroll along the riverbank or bring a boat to launch from the park. This is one of the best places to view bald eagles, and you can also visit Croton Point Nature Center, a small museum with exhibits about local history and native plant and animal species. The park is free, but you might pay for parking and activities.

Neuberger Museum of Art

The Neuberger Museum of Art, which is a 35-minute drive from Brewster, in the town of Purchase, New York, boasts one of the finest collections of artwork in the region. This collection features over 6,000 pieces of art, including works by famous American artists Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Edward Hopper. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. Admission to the Neuberger Museum of Art is free for all guests, but donations help the museum cover operating costs and pay for loaned pieces from other museums.

Trailside Museums & Zoo

Trailside Museums & Zoo, which is located 45 minutes from Brewster in Bear Mountain, is a wonderful place to learn about native plants and animals in the Hudson River Valley. This free museum and zoo is home to injured and orphaned wild animals that live in specially built habitats on the zoo’s grounds. You can walk through the park and see a wide range of native animal species, including bears, coyotes, beavers, eagles, and vultures. Throughout the zoo, you’ll find small stone museums focusing on history or geology. There’s also a reptile and amphibian museum.

The Maritime Aquarium

A 45-minute drive from Brewster in Norwalk, Connecticut, the Maritime Aquarium is a full-sized aquarium featuring many species of marine life, including sharks, seals, and jellyfish. The facility also has interactive activities, like a touch pool with sharks and rays. On the second floor, you can see exhibits with land animals in different biomes, like deserts and jungles. The aquarium is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including weekends. To visit the aquarium, guests must purchase tickets ahead of time on the facility’s website. Here are the admissions costs for the Maritime Aquarium:

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo

This zoo, which has been in operation for almost a century, houses a wide range of mammal, reptilian, avian, and amphibian wildlife in custom-built habitats. Species include alligators, anteaters, monkeys, peacocks, and red pandas. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo also has special activities for young visitors. There’s also the Mustang Mach-E all-electric SUV model released in late 2020 and available early fall 2021. The Mach-E GT model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, doesn’t use gas, and has a 305-mile battery life range. This is definitely a model worth test driving.

How Reliable Is a Ford Mustang?

When it comes to car reliability, there are a lot of factors to consider. Besides the sticker price, exactly how much will the car cost you to maintain each year? According to the latest comparative car reliability research stats, the Mustang ranks highest against all other Ford models and is very reliable when compared to other popular car brands.

The stats show that at yearly maintenance costs of just $709, the Mustang is substantially cheaper to maintain and beats the industry average for maintenance frequency by a substantial margin. Compared to other brands, the Mustang is rated higher for long-term quality.

How Fast Can a 2021 Mustang Go?

How fast an S550 Mustang can go is really an irrelevant question seeing as Ford installs speed limiters on all stock models. In general terms, top speeds are governed to 155 mph. A 2021 Mustang GT500 has been recorded at a top speed of 182 mph. After heavy modification, a Ford GT became the world’s fastest car in 2017 when it hit a top speed of 293.3 mph over one mile, beating its previous top speed record of 283.2 mph set in 2012.

A more relevant indicator of how fast a 2021 Mustang can go is timing the car’s acceleration from standstill to 60 mph. The Ecoboost will do zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, the Mach 1 in 4.2 seconds, the Shelby GT500 in 3.7 seconds, and, surprisingly, the Mach-E hits 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

Is the Mustang’s Automatic Transmission Better Than Its Manual?

Think of it as a six-speed transmission with an extra four overdrive gears. In effect, the more gears a transmission has, the more flexibility exists for engine-to-wheel speed optimization.

Additionally, the automatic transmission comes with manual paddle shifters positioned within finger-grasping distance of the steering wheel. Technically, the 10L80 transmission has six automatic clutches that engage/disengage (dual-clutch) in pairs. Compared to conventional two-piece designs, its six-clutch system provides quicker response timing through integrated solenoid valve regulating.

Which U.S. State Buys the Most Mustang Cars?

According to an analysis of muscle cars with at least 400 horsepower, Texas is the most horsepower-hungry state. The data shows that 1% of all the passenger cars purchased in Texas are 400+ horsepower Ford Mustang models. That’s almost double the number of Ford Mustangs purchased in Florida, which equals the number purchased in Arizona. One issue that has arisen is that unscrupulous sellers are taking advantage of desperate buyers to buy cars as-is. Following is a look at what you need to know before buying a vehicle that is being sold as-is.

Using “As-Is” in a Car Sale

New York has lemon laws that apply primarily to a new car with a defect that the dealer or manufacturer can’t repair. These laws also apply to used vehicles sold by a dealership. A dealership is required by law to provide a warranty on used cars that cost more than $1,500 or have less than 100,000 miles. Private sellers are exempt from lemon laws and can sell a used car without fear of reprisal. When you buy a used car from a private individual, you can’t ask them to cover the cost of repairs if the vehicle breaks down after they sign the title to you. The car can have a catastrophic breakdown after you have driven it for a mile, and you’ll be responsible for the cost of repairs. You can’t return to the seller to get your money back, but you may go through small claims court for reparations.

This scenario is much less likely to happen when you buy a used car from a reputable dealership like Brewster Ford. When a used car comes into the dealership for resale, it undergoes a full inspection regardless of whether it is a Ford or another manufacturer. Any minor repairs are made in-house, and the car is put into working condition for the next owner. But if you need a vehicle and do not have a lot of cash to spare, an as-is sale from a dealership or private seller can be very tempting.

Lemon laws do not apply to private sellers, but you can get the car inspected by your mechanic before you buy. One red flag is when the seller won’t accommodate your request to inspect the vehicle by a mechanic. That’s when it is time to walk away from the deal, as you are likely to find major mechanical issues. There’s always a risk that a used car has an existing mechanical problem that’s costly to repair. The Pulled Porktato features pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and melted cheese in a giant baked potato. The Ribworks Smokehouse Salad features sliced beef brisket or pulled pork atop a veggie-packed salad. Order the Porky Mac and enjoy pulled pork and crumbled bacon tossed with your macaroni and cheese. If you’re enamored with everything, Billy Joe’s Feast delivers a full rack of St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, sliced brisket, grilled Andouille sausage, a whole pit-smoked chicken, four sides, and potato rolls.

Since the Mustang Mach-E is an EV and uses no fuel, its performance is also measured by its total driving range. The Mustang Mach-E’s electric driving range is rated from 211 miles to 305 miles, depending on the trim level and configuration. The California Route 1 trim level offers the most range, and the GT trim level tops out at 270 miles. Ultimately, you will have to pick and choose from many options to strike a balance between the efficiency and performance you are looking to achieve when purchasing the Mustang Mach-E.
Spacious Interior
Did someone say spacious interior? This is typically not even considered when purchasing a Mustang, but the Mustang Mach-E is classified as a small SUV and provides ample interior room, making it appealing for families. The Mustang Mach-E can seat up to five passengers with room for cargo as well.

The available Bang & Olufsen audio system in the Mustang Mach-E elicits feelings of being in a concert hall and has a state-of-the-art subwoofer. Our sources tell us that the Empire Bagels shop was originally located in the Bronx, and now there are two locations: one in Brewster and one in Carmel. There are several reviews online claiming Empire Bagels is the best in the area. Other than bagels, they have an extensive menu specializing in sandwiches. Definitely try the breakfast sandwiches; we recommend the Country Style, made with 3 eggs, bacon, cheddar, onions, and peppers. If you’re not feeling breakfast or you’re visiting them closer to lunch, try the Grilled Chicken Caesar.
Find Empire Bagels located just a couple of miles away from our dealership in Brewster at 1515 NY-22, on the first floor of the Lakeview Shopping Center. Also, if you’re in a rush, try to call Empire Bagels ahead, since we hear they can get busy with lines out the door! One reviewer on Google mentioned her New Yorker family enjoys Empire Bagels more than any bagel shop in New York City. Now that’s saying something! Visit the Empire Bagels website for more details about their menu, and then call 845-302-2757.
Another popular with Brewster locals and visitors is The Bagel Shop on 851 NY-22. Reviewers suggest you visit this bakery early, as they can run out of most types of bagels, even on weekdays! Customers love the small-town feel of the shop, where you can enjoy coffee, breakfast or lunch, and a nice chat with an extremely friendly owner. Top Bakeries In and Around Brewster Specializing in Sweet Treats

We heard the peach cake at the Brewster Pastry is something folks in the area look forward to every season. If you have a sweet tooth or you are looking for a special dessert for a holiday party, we think you can’t go wrong with this shop. The chef specializes in European and French style cookies, specialty cakes, and mini pastries. They also offer bagels and other breads. Check out the Brewster Pastry website to see photos of their beautiful pies, tarts, and pastries. The shop is located at 1620 Route 22, and you can call ahead at 845-278-2555.
We love the story behind the Sunflour Bakery, which operates out of a renovated 2,000 square-foot location that was previously a church and before that, many other business types. But what we love most about the story is how much the Carlson family has worked together to build this business, starting from the kids helping their mom out in her first bakery job. If you want to know more about the Carlson family, check out this article the Pawling Record published about them.
Today, Sunflour specializes in making custom cakes for customers. At the shop, they also offer coffee that they roast in house, as well as sweet or savory treats. Find Sunflour Bakery at 5 Broad Street in Pawling. They currently have limited hours between Wednesday and Sunday, so we recommend you check their website before visiting or call ahead at 845-289-0981.
The Best Bread Near Brewster

The Baker’s Wife is a prime contender for the best bread in the Brewster area, according to our in-house and external sources. This is a micro bakery and mill that specializes in small-batch, leavened, handmade bread and features fresh-milled regional flour in all recipes. Baker Martin Wilson’s most popular breads are jalapeño cheddar and chocolate cherry. He also creates homemade pretzels, croissants, sourdough, and other artisanal loaves and baguettes. Some reviewers describe the texture of the loaves as having the perfect amount of crunch on the crust, with a perfectly soft center.
The Baker’s Wife is located in Pawling, New York. However, there is no dedicated storefront, and we recommend ordering through their partner, the Sunflower Bakery (mentioned in the previous section) or following The Baker’s Wife on Facebook to find out where Martin will feature his products next.
LMNOP Bakery is also a micro bakery specializing in bread. Their website describes the ordering and pick up information, stating that the menu tends to consist of a staple sourdough and two or three specialty loaves. You are generally able to choose between a round or sandwich-style loaf, though some are only available in one of the two options. Finally, you are able to choose your pick-up day (Wednesdays through Saturdays only) and date. The pick-up location is at Mast Market, 92 S Moger Ave., Mt Kisco, NY, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
LMNOP is baking out of the Mast Market currently, but baker Anne Mayhew is working on eventually opening up a storefront location in Katonah. You can find more information on the LMNOP website, and we were happy to learn from reviewing the Facebook page that as of September, Anne is trialing outdoor wood-fired pizza workshops. She also offers workshops for learning introductory and advanced sourdough techniques, as well as how to make sourdough pretzels!
