The Ford Bronco is a crossover renowned for its off-roading expertise, but it’s also a handy towing machine. There are two configurations available with the Bronco — a two-door and a four-door model. While the two-door option tends to be the preferred choice among off-roaders, the four-door version provides you with more interior cargo capacity. Here’s a closer look at exactly how much the Bronco can tow and what features it comes with to make hauling a heavy load at the rear that bit easier. To learn more, don’t hesitate to contact our experts here at Brewster Ford.

How much can a 2023 Ford Bronco tow?

2023 Ford Bronco Towing Limits

Most 2023 Broncos have a towing limit of 3,500 pounds. However, the Raptor trim, which is the highest option in the 10-trim lineup, increases your towing capacity to 4,500 pounds. The added capacity is made possible by a more powerful engine under the hood, which produces the necessary torque and horsepower to handle those extra-heavy loads.

The Bronco’s towing abilities stand out among other vehicles in the compact SUV class. Many other crossovers struggle to tow half as much as the Raptor, with common towing capacities ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 pounds. So if you’re looking for a compact towing machine, the Bronco should be at the top of your list.

What Can a 2023 Bronco Tow?

Some people find it difficult to imagine what a 4,500-pound towing limit looks like in practice. What pieces of equipment can a vehicle with that towing limit pull at the rear? If you’re asking yourself this question, it may help to consider a few examples. The Bronco can easily handle a small travel trailer or a pop-up camper. If you push the towing capabilities a bit harder, you’ll also have no trouble towing a utility trailer or a modest-sized camper.

When figuring out the towing capacity, it’s important to consider the weight in your Bronco’s cabin and what you’re pulling at the rear. As a result, a full cabin of passengers or a heavy load of cargo behind the second row can reduce your towing capacity. Going over your towing capacity is something you should avoid at all costs, as it can cause serious damage to your vehicle. Your performance on the road will be impaired because your Bronco will be much more difficult to handle.

Ford Bronco Engine and Performance

The key to the Bronco’s impressive towing abilities is its powerful engine lineup. Even the base engine has strong stats. The 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder unit can put out 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, and it’s paired with a seven-speed manual transmission. This engine gives the Bronco a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

The second engine option is a 2.7L six-cylinder unit. It has an output of 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Like the base engine, this engine gives the Bronco a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. However, it offers stronger acceleration from zero to 60 mph than the base turbocharged unit.

The biggest Bronco engine is available only in the range-topping Raptor trim. The 3.0L unit churns out 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. Only with this powerhouse under the hood can your Bronco reach its top towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.

Bronco Cargo Capacity

Along with the Bronco’s great towing abilities, you can carry additional cargo at the rear of the cabin. You may require camping gear or luggage space for your next vacation. If you plan on making the most of the Bronco’s interior space, you’ll want to opt for the four-door version. In this setup, the Bronco can carry over 35 cubic feet of cargo at the rear. The second row folded flat boosts this capacity to over 77 cubic feet.

The smaller two-row Bronco is still a capable cargo hauler, and it may still be your best option if you plan on doing a significant amount of off-roading. There are 22.4 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row, which can comfortably hold a large load of groceries. If you need to haul bulkier items, you can access over 52 cubic feet of space by folding the second row flat.

Bronco Off-Roading Capabilities

The Bronco needs little introduction to seasoned off-roaders. Its long list of gear designed to tackle rocks, mud trails, steep gradients, and other challenging surfaces puts this crossover at the front of the pack when the pavement ends. For towing, this means that you’ll have no trouble hauling a camper or trailer along a gravel road or trail to reach even the most out-of-the-way campsite.

One of the most important features that help the Bronco tackle rough terrain is its ground clearance. Even the base model has an excellent ground clearance of 8.3 inches. Move up to the top Raptor trim, and you’ll have an incredible 13.1 inches to work with. The Bronco is equipped with numerous skid plates to protect its components from rocks and other obstacles. The off-road suspension ensures this crossover articulates well over bumps and other objects.

Various off-roading upgrades are available to tackle the most challenging trails. For instance, you can get winch-ready bumpers, mud or all-terrain tires, and locking differentials. All trims have different drive modes that can alter the traction and other aspects of the Bronco’s performance to handle mud, sand, snow, and other conditions.

The Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV that’s an attractive option for families in Brewster, New York, needing a vehicle with plenty of passenger and cargo space. Another benefit of the 2023 Ford Explorer is its durability and longevity. But how long can the Explorer last? Our experts here at Brewster Ford have created this guide to the 2023 Explorer’s expected life span, including some tips on how to get the most out of your vehicle. Feel free to contact us with any questions about vehicle maintenance or repairs, or reserve an appointment at our Ford service center.

2023 Blue Ford Explorer Hybrid

What Is the Estimated Life Span of the Ford Explorer?

A Ford Explorer can last anywhere from 10 to 17 years and get up to 80,000 to 200,000 miles. Some owners have even reported achieving 300,000 miles in their Explorer. If you’re trying to get the longest life out of your Explorer, it’s best to aim to drive around 12,000 miles per year since covering significantly more than this can result in your Ford wearing out more quickly.

You can expect your Explorer to require more maintenance and repairs as it ages. There are some standard maintenance thresholds to keep in mind. For example, it’s typical for Explorers to need major performance maintenance somewhere around the 150,000-mile mark. Around 200,000 miles, you may need to replace the timing chain or belt. We’ll detail the important maintenance areas you should pay attention to later.

What Factors Influence the Explorer’s Life Span?

Your local environment can significantly impact your car’s durability. For example, the cold weather we experience in winter here in Brewster means dealing with salt on the roads to melt the ice that would otherwise make driving dangerous. While salt helps make the roads safer, it can cause extensive corrosion on the undercarriage of your Explorer. You can avoid this by regularly washing your car with water to remove the salt from its bodywork and other components. This step should help prevent damage to parts that could prove expensive to repair.

Your driving style is another factor that could affect your vehicle. Traveling at high speeds requiring you to regularly slam on the brakes or other poor driving habits take their toll on a vehicle. Your Explorer may experience quicker wear on its brake pads, damage to other braking components, and added pressure on engine components. That’s before we even start talking about the increased risk of accidents with reckless driving.

A final point to keep in mind is where you drive. If you spend most of your time on city roads, you’ll have to brake and accelerate more often than on the highway, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Over time, this type of driving can wear on your vehicle. Excessive wear and tear may also be problematic if you regularly travel over mountain passes since the engine will be under greater strain when climbing steep gradients.

Can Maintenance Improve the Explorer’s Longevity?

Sticking to a routine maintenance schedule is the most effective way to ensure your 2023 Explorer has a long working life. The factory warranty will protect your Explorer during the first three years you own it. This warranty covers defective or damaged parts resulting from poor workmanship. You may want to take out an extended warranty after the factory warranty expires.

Common maintenance tasks can help protect your Explorer’s components from excessive wear and tear. For example, regularly changing the engine oil will protect engine parts against unnecessary friction caused by contaminated oil. When debris from worn parts or dirt from an external source contaminates the oil, it loses its lubricating abilities.

Regularly inspecting the brake pads and replacing them when appropriate is also crucial since worn pads can result in serious damage to other parts of the braking system that are expensive to replace or repair.

As your vehicle gets older, you’ll want to pay close attention to any indications that it needs maintenance, including warning lights on the dashboard, strange noises when you’re driving or braking, and problems with your vehicle’s performance.

Preventive maintenance is the most effective, which means scheduling repairs before a problem gets serious. One of the most effective ways to practice preventive maintenance is to have a regular multipoint inspection at a reliable dealership, where a trained service professional can examine all your Explorer’s main components.

Key Points About the Ford Explorer

The 2023 Explorer is a three-row SUV with seating for up to seven people. If you have a young or growing family, the Explorer’s large interior dimensions and lengthy average life span make it a great choice if you’re looking to purchase a vehicle that can fit your needs for years to come.

Behind the third row of seats, you’ll find 18 cubic feet of storage, which is enough for a load of groceries or your kids’ soccer gear. You can transport bulkier items with the third row down, which creates more than 47 cubic feet of cargo room. In terms of infotainment, the Explorer has an 8-inch display and offers a 14-speaker stereo system.

There’s no shortage of configuration options for creating a personalized cabin. You can swap out the second-row bench seat for two captain’s chairs for more comfort, although this reduces the capacity to six people. You can also step up to a higher trim level to access more luxurious materials and upscale features, such as leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, and a moonroof.

The Ford Explorer has established a reputation as a versatile three-row SUV that’s equally at home carrying a large family as it is hauling a load of cargo. For the 2024 model year, Ford is giving its top midsize SUV an overhaul with some exciting new features.

Here at Brewster Ford in Brewster, New York, we’re looking forward to the all-new Explorer that’ll hit our showroom toward the end of 2023. If you want to stay on top of the latest news about the release date or any new features, don’t hesitate to contact our team and we’ll be happy to help you.

What’s New for the 2024 Ford Explorer?

The sixth edition of the Ford Explorer was released for the 2020 model year, so we’re expecting a few styling upgrades for 2024 as part of a mid-cycle update to keep this three-row SUV looking fresh. We don’t have too many confirmed details yet, but we’re expecting that the infotainment touch screens could be renewed to give you a larger display to work with.

We also think Ford could give the exterior a slight upgrade, with possibly some new designs for the headlights, grill, and other front-end features. One possibility is that the LED light strip across the top of the grill on the new F-150 Lightning could appear on the Explorer.

As we get closer to the release date, we’ll be updating this section with new details about Ford’s popular midsize SUV. Make sure to bookmark this page and check back in the coming weeks and months.

2024 Explorer Engine and Performance

The Explorer has been at the cutting edge of SUV performance since it first appeared 30 years ago, leading the way for many SUVs that followed. In its sixth edition, the Explorer continues to have a powerful engine and capable powertrain. The base engine is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder unit able to put out 300 horsepower. It’s a strong choice if you plan on sticking to city roads for most of your driving, but it’ll also provide enough acceleration for highway trips.

If you want to make the most of the Explorer’s power for long highway drives or tow a heavy load at the rear, the upgraded engine will be your best bet. It’s a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder unit that churns out an excellent 400 horsepower. It helps you access the Explorer’s 5,600-pound towing capacity, which provides you with enough muscle to haul a midsize camper out of town for the weekend.

2024 Ford Explorer Interior

The Explorer can seat up to seven people across its three rows. You’ll need to stick with the standard second-row bench seat to have this maximum capacity. If you’d like a little more comfort in the second-row captain’s chairs, your overall passenger capacity will be cut to six. Both the second and third rows have equipment for installing children’s seats.

The Explorer also excels in cargo capacity, offering one of the roomiest cabins in the midsize SUV class. Behind the third row, you’ll find 18 cubic feet of cargo space, about enough for some groceries from the store. If you’re planning on transporting bulkier items, you can fold down the third row of seats to open up 47 cubic feet of space. With both rear rows folded flat, you get 87 cubic feet of space inside the Explorer.

Explorer Infotainment and Safety Tech

In the 2023 Explorer, the base infotainment system included an 8-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker stereo. As we noted earlier, a larger screen may be offered in the base setup for 2024, potentially the 10.1-inch unit that was an optional upgrade in 2023. Other base features we expect to stay the same include a Wi-Fi hotspot, smartphone compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice recognition.

Ford offers a range of attractive infotainment upgrades for you to choose from. You can make the most of your favorite music with a 12-speaker or 14-speaker premium stereo. The optional 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster makes monitoring your Explorer’s performance on the road much easier. With the rear-seat infotainment system, you can keep your kids or friends entertained on long drives.

2024 Explorer Trims and Pricing

We expect the 2024 Explorer’s starting price to be around $38,000. While the full trim lineup isn’t out yet, we expect the trims to follow the 2023 selection. The only exception to this may be some adjustments in the availability of certain features throughout the trim lineup, which we’ll let you know about closer to the release date.

Eight trims were offered in the Explorer’s 2023 edition: base, XLT, ST-Line, Limited, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. One of the main differences in the lineup is that the first five trims come standard with the base engine, while the ST, King Ranch, and Platinum trims are equipped with the more powerful twin-turbocharged six-cylinder unit.

Stepping up to the XLT trim gains power-adjustable and heated front seats, rear-row USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The ST-Line has a more upscale cabin with synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and multi-colored ambient lighting. The Limited trim is truly luxurious, with genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front and second-row seats, and heated second-row seats.

The ST features sporty styling with a tuned-up suspension and a digital gauge cluster. If you choose the King Ranch or Platinum, you can look forward to upgraded leather upholstery and interior wood trim.

The F-150 comes standard with forward collision mitigation, post-collision braking, reverse parking sensors, and auto high beams. Moving up the trims gets you features such as a lane-keeping system, rain-sensing wipers, and a 360-degree camera system. The top two trims also come with intelligent adaptive cruise control.

F-150 Interior Accessories

While the Ford F-150 is superbly equipped inside and out, you might want to add your own personal touch to the cab with the many available accessories. You can buy non-genuine aftermarket parts, but at Brewster Ford, we recommend buying original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts or Ford-recommended accessories. That way, you can be sure they’re designed to fit your vehicle perfectly and complement your truck’s interior.

Whether you want to customize your truck’s cabin, get additional storage, or add another layer of protection for the seats and flooring, you can find the solutions among Ford’s accessories. Protect the carpets with all-weather floor mats and liners, or get extra cupholders and cargo organizers to help you stay organized. An in-console safe provides a secure, out-of-sight place for your valuables, and you can add a touch of class and protection with door sill plates.

If you take your dog out in the winter, you can protect your seats from mud and wet hair with a pet hammock. It’s designed to be attached to the front and rear headrests and hang between the front and rear seats. Seat covers are also a great way to add style and help protect your truck’s cloth or leather seating when you’re blazing the trails or heading onto a muddy work site.

What Are the Best Seat Covers for the F-150?

The best seat covers for your F-150 are those that are designed specifically for the vehicle. On the Ford accessories page, you can find a wide range of stylish and durable covers for your truck’s front and rear seats. A variety of colors and designs enable you to add a unique look to the cabin. If you use your truck to go hunting, you even have a great choice of brown or green camouflage designs to personalize your truck.

For a large vehicle, it’s surprisingly economical, so you’ll need to make fewer stops at the gas station on your road trips. Today, we look at the Expedition’s fuel tank size, range, and features that make every journey a pleasure for the driver and passengers.

2023 Ford Expedition MPG

Expedition Overview

The 2023 Ford Expedition has bold and elegant styling, giving it a sophisticated road presence. It’s available in the XL, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum trims and the off-road-oriented Timberline model. You can choose the more extended wheelbase Expedition Max for interior space in all but the XL and Timberline trims.

Exterior features for the XL include LED headlights, daytime running lights, running boards, 18-inch aluminum wheels, rear privacy glass, and power mirrors with approach lamps. The XLT adds a power liftgate, while the Timberline gets a more rugged look, along with LED fog lights, signature lighting, and power-folding mirrors with memory. Higher-spec models offer a panoramic moonroof, LED taillights, power-deployable running boards, and a hands-free liftgate.

Powerful Engines

Under the hood of most Expeditions is a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V-6 engine that delivers 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque via a 10-speed automatic transmission. On the Platinum trim, the engine output increases to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

Meanwhile, the Timberline’s engine power is boosted to deliver 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque to the standard four-wheel-drive system. Other trims come standard with rear-wheel drive and offer four-wheel drive as an option.

Ford Expedition Fuel Tank Capacity and Range

The standard Expedition has a fuel tank capacity of 23.2 gallons. With fuel economy of up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg for highway driving, you get a range of 371.2 miles around town and 533.6 miles for highway cruising. With four-wheel drive, city mileage stays the same, but the highway economy is up to 22 mpg, giving you a range of 487.2 miles.

With a tank capacity of 27.8 gallons, the Expedition Max gives you a range of 444.8 miles for city driving and 639.4 miles on the highway. When equipped with four-wheel drive, the Max returns up to 16 and 21 mpg for city and highway driving, respectively, for a highway range of 583.8 miles.

The more powerful Timberline does up to 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, enabling you to drive 440.8 miles on the highway on a single tank of fuel. Expedition Platinum models return up to 16 and 22 mpg for city/highway driving, respectively, and can cover up to 510.4 miles between fuel stops. The Platinum Max has a range of up to 611.6 miles with its bigger tank.

Towing Capacity

The Expedition offers superb towing capability if you want to take a boat or recreational trailer on your adventures. The towing capacity is 6,600 pounds for rear-wheel drive models and 6,500 pounds for four-wheel drive models. With the available heavy-duty towing package, the towing capacities increase significantly to 9,300 pounds with rear-wheel drive, 9,200 pounds with four-wheel drive, and 9,000 for Expedition Max models.

Road Trip-Ready Interior

Inside the Expedition’s spacious cabin, you’ll find high-quality materials and all the amenities you need. With comfortable seating and plenty of space for passengers in all three rows, even the longest trip is pleasurable. This large SUV can seat eight people or seven with the available second-row captain’s chairs. The XL is the exception, with its two rows and seating for five.

With a full load of passengers, you have 19.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats for your gear. Folding down the third row gives you 57.5 cubic feet of cargo space, and with the second and third rows folded, you get a vast 104.6 cubic-foot cargo area. For the longer Expedition Max, the figures are 34.3, 73.3, and 121.5 cubic feet. So you won’t need to leave anything or anyone behind.

Interior Features

In the XL, you’ll find push-button start, cruise control, stylish cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8-inch driver information display, three-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a tilting, and telescoping steering column. The XLT adds a power-folding, reclining third row, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The Timberline has unique upholstery with faux leather-trimmed cloth seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and power-folding tip-and-slide second-row seats. It also offers remote start, driver memory functions, power-adjustable pedals, and steering column, a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, and a 110-volt power outlet.

The Limited trim offers you adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and ambient lighting. The two top trims feature unique, model-specific upholstery and trim, while the Platinum trim also offers multi-contoured front seats with a massage function.

Entertainment

The standard SYNC 4 infotainment system has a 12-inch touchscreen, navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a six-speaker sound system. It also has a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices, so everybody can stay connected. Up to four USB ports and four 12-volt power outlets keep devices charged and ready to use.

The XLT gets satellite radio, while the Limited trim adds a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with HD radio. The King Ranch and Platinum models feature a 15.5-inch touchscreen and a stunning 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed audio system.
