When you’re in the market for an electric vehicle, make sure to check out the 2023 Mustang Mach-E, a powerful crossover SUV that’ll be sure to impress you with its battery life and performance. The Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s first all-electric crossover vehicle that you can charge at any 240-volt, standard AC wall outlet. It can take anywhere from one to 48 hours to charge, so it’s important to understand the battery options it comes with and it’s charging capabilities when you check out this outstanding new EV.

How Long Does a 2023 Mustang Mach-E Take To Charge?

When you drive off in a new 2023 Mustang Mach-E, you must understand how long it may take to charge so you can plan accordingly. The Mustang Mach-E has two battery sizes: the 75.7-kWh standard-range pack and the 98.7-kWh extended-range pack. The standard pack has 68.0 kWh of usable capacity while the extended-range pack has  88.0 kWh of usable capacity as well as 150-kW peak DC fast-charging power.

If you opt for the standard-range pack, you can charge your Mustang Mach-E from 10 to 80 percent in 38 minutes with a 150-kilowatt EV charger. Instead, the extended-range battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 45 minutes with a 150-kilowatt EV charger. It’s important to note that the onboard charger limits charging power after the pack is 80 percent full, per manufacturer programming, so it can take another two hours to charge the battery from 80 to 100 percent.

This is because when the vehicle’s battery pack is discharged completely or stays fully charged for an extended period, it may suffer permanent damage. Realistically, you should only need 80 percent battery to complete your trip, so consider how long you plan to drive when you’re charging your Mustang Mach-E. The charging buffer at the high end can help prevent damage to your vehicle.

Mustang Mach-E Charging Options

While the Mustang Mach-E charges impressively fast with a 150-kilowatt EV charger, you may not have this charging option available. Instead, you may attach a Ford Mobile Charger to a 120-volt power outlet, which allows your electric vehicle to gain around three miles of range per hour. After 10 hours of charging, the Mustang Mach-E would have around 30 miles of range.

However, if you use for the Ford Mobile Charger outlet attachment with a 240-volt outlet, it’ll provide your vehicle with 20 miles of range per hour of charge. With this charger, it’ll take around nine hours to charge from 10 to 80 percent. If you decide to charge your Mustang Mach-E at home with a home charger, it may take up to 10 hours to fully charge a 300-mile extended-range Mach-E battery.

Tips for Planning Your Mach-E Charging

When you’re planning a long trip, it’s important to think ahead when it comes to charging your electric vehicle so you don’t get stuck on the road with a low battery charge. Fortunately, Ford is here to help and offers a system part of the BlueOval Charge Network (BOCN) that finds public charging stations for your Mustang Mach-E. Fortunately, the base model Mach-E Select has 247 miles of driving range, making it easy to only need to fully charge your battery once for a variety of trips.

You can also use free websites, like A Better Route Planner, to plan a longer journey that requires several stops. This type of site helps you plan your trip, find places along the way to stop and charge, and calculate your driving and charging time. Here are some tips to help you get the most of your charge before your trip:

  • Set the vehicle’s max state of charge (SOC) to 80 percent rather than 100, since the Mach-E significantly loses its fast-charging capabilities after 80 percent.
  • Set the charger arrival SOC to 10 percent, or opt for 15 percent if you’re nervous about your long trip in a standard-range Mach-E.
  • After planning your route, verify that you have the specific app and an account with the charging station you plan to use throughout your trip. Many charging stalls have a credit card reader, but if they don’t work, you don’t want this to get in the way of recharging and heading back out on the road.

Go for Speed With the Mustang Mach-E

When you’re looking for an EV, you’ll notice the Mustang Mach-E stands out from its competitors. This electric SUV offers drivers impressive performance and outstanding speed. It lives up to the “Mustang” reputation and has engaging driving dynamics. It only takes 5.2 seconds for the Mustang Mach-E Select to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph). If you opt for the GT trim, you’ll notice it only takes 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.
